What have you enjoyed about working at your location, specific job, coworkers, housing?
First and foremost, my team consists of some of the most incredible individuals I have ever met. Never have I worked in a place where everyone genuinely wants to be there. The people you work with can greatly impact your experience and either take you higher or sink your ship; and I am lucky that I get to work in such a positive and supportive environment, where hard work is recognized, and colleagues and good friends are one in the same. I don’t understand how we are able to have such quality banter with each other whilst simultaneously upholding professionalism…but we’ve mastered that balance at AUC! In addition to this…how could one complain when their office is literally on the oceanfront?
Why would you recommend working at Under Canvas to someone?
Whenever I recommend Under Canvas to someone (which I do often), I tell them that it is a great company to work for if you are interested in travelling, the outdoors, and working an active job. There are opportunities for growth and a variety of positional niches for every personality.
What would be the best bit of advice they would give to someone considering working at UC?
The understanding that every part makes up a very important piece of the whole is crucial when working for Under Canvas. You must be prepared to be a team player, because if one department is struggling, everyone is affected and has to deal with the repercussions. I believe cross-training is wonderful, because this allows you to hop in and help other departments in time of need. I would advise that you have a hunger for knowledge and continuous growth, so that you may acquire new skill sets along the way and increase your ability to adequately aid your coworkers and guests.
What is your most memorable experience working with a guest or a coworker?
When I worked at Under Canvas Grand Canyon, I got to not only meet, but perform and film a video with Instagram’s famous little dancer, Boss Baby Brody! Brody and his lovely family stayed with us for a couple of nights and after they heard me sing on the first night of their stay, Brody’s mom, Danielle, reached out to me about singing and playing guitar while Brody danceed interpretively to the music! We had a blast filming, and I loved meeting and working with that incredibly kind family.
What is your favorite part of your day?
My favorite part of the day is getting to share my knowledge of the area and experiences with the guests when they ask me questions at my desk. This is one of the many things I love about being a Guest Experience Coordinator. I essentially get to plan people’s trips for them! It always brings me so much joy when guests return to my desk after having done the things I recommended and explain how much they loved it! They are always so thankful, and it warms my heart.
